What is our psychotherapeutic approach?

We are trained in the evidence-based method “Intensive Dynamic Short – Term Dynamic Psychotherapy” (ISTDP).

ISTDP is based on psychoanalytic theory, as well as other relevant psychological theories and methods e.g., attachment theory, developmental psychology, cognitive and biological psychology, and psychotherapy research. “Short – term therapy” does not mean limiting ourselves to a specific number of sessions. It means working intensely and focused, towards the changes and goals you want to achieve as quickly as possible.

The ISTDP method has been thoroughly investigated in numerous research projects, and by now there is now solid evidence for the method’s effectiveness in treating the most widespread mental disorders, problems, and symptoms such as anxiety, depression, personality disorders, trauma, PTSD, psychosomatic disorders, etc.

ISTDP was originally developed from the 1960s to the 1990s by Dr. Habib Davanloo, who is a psychiatrist, psychoanalyst, and professor emeritus at McGill University in Canada. The method has since been further developed and researched by, among others, Professor Allan Abbass at Dalhousie University, Patricia Coughlin (Della Selva), and Jon Frederickson at the ISTDP Institute and the Washington School of Psychiatry.

The clinic’s psychologists have received extensive training and supervision over the past twenty years from Abbass, Coughlin, and Frederickson, as well as other teachers and supervisors. We also teach and supervise other psychologists, physicians, and psychotherapists in ISTDP.
